AKRUS is currently preparing for DOG 2026. From 24 to 27 September 2026, the congress in Berlin will bring together experts from ophthalmology, hospitals, private practices, research and industry. Last Friday, on the 21. August 2026, AKRUS celebrated its 80th company anniversary. The event was a complete success and provided a special setting to look back together on eight decades of company history.

At the same time, it became clear that this path has above all been shaped by the commitment of many people: employees, customers, specialist trade partners, suppliers and long-standing business partners have accompanied and contributed to the company’s development over many years.

Precise Patient Positioning for Refractive Laser Surgery

With the Patient Support System LSCneo, AKRUS is expanding its product portfolio for ophthalmology. The technically optimised patient positioning system for refractive laser surgery is now available to clinics, medical practices and laser centers..

AKRUS has many years of experience in developing and manufacturing patient positioning systems for refractive laser applications. This expertise has been incorporated into the Patient Support System LSCneo, combining precise positioning, user-friendly operation and integrated safety features.

Electric adjustment along the X, Y and Z axes enables patients to be positioned precisely at the laser focal point. The headrest can also be adjusted electrically in height and tilted manually. An analogue joystick allows smooth, precise movement at variable speeds, supporting accurate and controlled positioning throughout the procedure.

Different safety solutions are available. In addition to an easily accessible emergency stop, all motorised movements are enabled either via an additional safety footswitch or controlled directly using the corresponding buttons. When used with a fixed laser head, the tilting headrest also provides an additional means of releasing the patient in an emergency. These safety features make the Patient Support System LSCneo suitable for use with both excimer lasers and femtosecond lasers with a fixed laser head.

For laser centers using two different systems, the upper section can optionally be swiveled by approximately 35 degrees. All adjustment axes remain available in the swiveled position, allowing patients to be transferred between the two laser systems without repositioning them on another treatment bed.

The LSC neo enables precise adjustment in the X, Y, and Z directions. This allows the patient position to be finely adjusted to the respective laser system and to the individual anatomy of the patient.

Control is carried out via an analog joystick. It allows controlled movements, from quick repositioning to very slow and precise fine adjustments. For users, this means that the patient support system not only assists with correct positioning, but also supports a calm and efficient treatment workflow.

Another important aspect is stable head positioning. The headrest of the LSC neo can be moved vertically by electric adjustment and can also be tilted manually. This allows the head position to be adjusted precisely without having to reposition the entire patient.

In refractive laser surgery in particular, this fine adjustment is a practical advantage. It supports calm, comfortable, and precise patient positioning during treatment.

Safety in Interaction with the Laser System

In addition to precision and ergonomics, safety plays a central role. The LSC neo is designed for use under excimer and femtosecond lasers as well as other suitable laser systems. Integrated safety systems and interlocks support controlled operation in the laser environment.

Depending on the laser system and application, different safety concepts are available. With suitable laser systems, a direct connection between the laser and the patient support system can be used to help prevent unintended movements during treatment. Alternatively, movement release can be controlled via a separate footswitch. In this case, movements of the patient support system are only possible when the footswitch is actively pressed.

This makes the LSC neo a technical component of the overall treatment workflow. It is not merely a support surface, but a positioning system designed for the specific requirements of refractive laser surgery.

The sc5010 ES/HS mobile operating chairs from AKRUS are now available in an enhanced version. Faster motors and a new rechargeable battery (lithium-ion battery) support an even more efficient workflow – in the treatment room as well as in the outpatient OR.

The sc5010 ES was specially developed for ophthalmological applications and offers surgeons plenty of legroom, flexibility and good access to the operating field. The sc5010 HS is designed for treatments in the head area and is suitable for ENT, maxillofacial, plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, among others.

The proven strengths of the series are retained: flexible positioning, battery-powered operation, ergonomic working and comfortable positioning for patients. Head, back, seat and leg elements can be individually adjusted; memory functions facilitate repetitive positioning in daily use.
